Electrical contractors were spending hours manually calculating material costs and preparing quotations. Pricing inconsistencies and outdated catalogs led to inaccurate bids and lost margin.
The business needed a cloud platform that centralized live market pricing, standardized electrical symbols, and turned estimation into a repeatable digital workflow.
The complexity of electrical estimation was the central challenge. BidPak serves contractors who live inside pricebooks, assemblies, symbols, and bid packages every day. Pricing changes, catalogs go stale, and a single wrong component can wipe margin off a job. The old way of working forced estimators into spreadsheets, disconnected catalogs, and manual quotation work that was slow, inconsistent, and hard to trust when a bid needed to go out the same day.
The product problem was deeper than building a form. BidPak needed a live pricebook with thousands of electrical components, search that felt instant under real estimator pressure, smart assemblies that reduced repetitive work, and a bid generation flow that matched how contractors actually price jobs. Performance, data sync, and UX all had to hold up together. If search lagged or pricing looked outdated, estimators would abandon the platform and go back to the tools they already trusted.
We started by mapping the estimation workflow end to end: how estimators search parts, assemble scopes, validate pricing, and turn that work into a proposal. That discovery shaped two product decisions. First, the pricebook had to be the system of record, not a static upload. Second, assemblies and symbols needed to sit inside the same workflow as search and bid output so estimators never left the platform to finish a quote.
We led frontend development and GraphQL API delivery on a Next.js and Node.js stack, with MongoDB and Elasticsearch powering component search across more than 10,000 electrical parts. Monstache kept pricing synchronized in near real time so live market data stayed usable during estimation. Smart assemblies, electrical symbols, contractor management, and bid generation were engineered into one cloud workflow. The result is an estimation platform contractors can use to produce accurate bids faster without rebuilding their process around another spreadsheet.
